looking for usb hdd as backup

ok, the new pc is tiny, lean & mean. however that also means that it only has 1 hard drive. can anyone recommend an external usb hdd + software i can use for backup of the entire pc - i have formatted the single drive into 4 partitions. i'd ideally like a mirror of that.

    thanks.

I'd recommend Acronis s/w to do the backup.

Won't any usb hdd do the job?

Get a nice big one so you can have several image copies on the same drive (you can reckon on getting approx 50% compression using Acronis)

I have Acronis TruImage backing up to a NAS. Seems to work well enough.

Why a USB rather than a NAS? I'd have thought a NAS would be better and not really cost any more.

Or if you have any old hard drives, buy one of those USB enclosures. I have a couple and they just work.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

        +1 for acronis

for backups I use a combination of a small WD portable external hard drive for backing up offsite during the week
and then one of these for a more secure backup when i get back to the home office

Any external hard drive - I have a couple of 500GB Lacie pocket drives and a 320GB Freecom one.

For more permanent backup, I use a Drobo - I currently have 2.8TB as a backup device but can add / remove as needed. I tried a WD one and hated it with a passion - in the end I took the two drives out and stuck them in the Drobo

Still too expensive for me to consider.. maybe in a couple of years if I need to go past the 1TB of storage

When you've downloaded as much filth as I have since being benched, you'll realize how important it is to get it all backed up

I have a 1TB Q2 external drive connected to my primary Mac Mini via USB and use Time Machine to backup up the three macs that are on the home network.

Oh, sorry, this is a PC thread. There are still people out there that use them?
