MS Home & Student expired.

Right, in the middle of doing some course work that needs to be handed in tomorrow, number 2 son has just told me his version of Home & student 2007's license has expired.

So, he'll have to complete it on my other pc.

Had a look at his version and tried to re activate via the gui. A message says to the effect as he's accessed Word 25 times the license will no longer work. Fair enough.

However, there's no provision on the screen to enter a purchased key (or any other key ). Does anyone know how to enter a new key in this case?

I've also had a look in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0. There's no registration folder \ entry present compared to what's on my pc yet Word opens with the message restricted functionality.

How can I fix his Home & Student 2007? Buggered if Im paying for a license then cannot enter it to the software.

My Home and Student expired after 90 days, not after a number of uses. It then used to pop up a message asking if I wanted to purchase it. This then opened an IE browser which never ever worked even in FF and Opera and could never get it to work. Even uninstalling the product and then re-installing never got around the expiry which means that it leaves something in the registry.

Maybe you could try downloading it again from MS and installing again which will give you this option (mine came with a license key for 90 days and I've used it on other PCs successfully.)

It seems from various places (such as here and here) that you have to uninstall the trial version, then install the purchased version before you are able to enter the product key.

This is why Microsoft are the winners on the desktop - it's so much easier than trying to get OpenOffice.org working on Linux, and having to pay as well as waste your time makes you value it more
