    Suggest a good broadband ISP

I dont want impressions that so and so ISP is really really good. I want cold hard facts.

Some on here gave it that crap a while ago so I changed to IDNet. Their ADSL2 was shyte, kept dropping the connection every 10 - 15 minutes.

Oh well get BT to make changes. yeah they did, down graded me to 8 meg ADSL only its slower than ******* tiscali. Telephone line was as noisy as ****. Funny when all they did was stiff me for over 100 quid connection and set up fee blah blah blah and used the same ******* line!

At least tiscali managed upto 4.2MB/s. IDNET manages a super fast 2MB\s. ******* useless. And their support pisses off home at 5pm and doesnt open over the weekend. At least you could get tiscali support 'out of hours.'

    So, who's better then?
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Get Telewest/NTL Business Broadband - £40 for 10 Mbits connection. Pro: no throttling or any limits, it's the best you can get (20 Mbits for £50 but it's 24 months contract it seems).

Consumer Virgin connections are throttled unless you get 50 Mbits which is £37 per month now.

If you can't get cable go for BeThere ADSL 2 - also unlimited.

    Everyone else is tulip.

If they say £500 starting rate and 2 Mbits starting bandwidth then you can bet you won't be getting much more than 2 Mbits for £500

SKA now crawls date at around 1 Gbit/sec

That's what happened to mine, noisy phone and stuck on fixed 2mb as nothing else works.

The line has some bad joints or something so it would be the same no mater which ISP I use, BT aren't interested so there's nothing that can be done except wait for fibre in 2030.

I guess you have the same problem, might as well go with the cheapest but not many offer fixed rate these days.

I would suggest nildram (http://www.nildram.net) haven't really had any problems myself.

However a noisy phone line is BT's problem whoever your ISP and with one you will prolly get a rubbish connection...

Aye, you'll be stuffed whoever you go with.

Apart from that, I'll be another vote for Be.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I gave up on BT products when ADSL2 proved to be junk; signed up with O2 LLU and got the first three months free. If you go through Quidco you also get £50 cashback so you`re actually being paid by your ISP.

WHS, the service itself is excellent but I've found the "BeBox" (rebranded Thompson box) can be flakey so you may wish to source your own (Netgear, Draytek, etc.).
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

What I dont understand is, tiscali is LLU but the actual line from exchange to my gaff hasnt changed. So why was the line which is now back in BT's hands be noisy when it wasnt under tiscali LLU? The noise issue has settled down since BT last did 'all it could' on the line!

Trouble is the download speed has been halved since transferring from tiscali to BT & IDNet while the cost has effectively doubled and, thanks to 2 teenagers, I about to go over the 10g 'peak time' download limit so extra cost.

I may as well go back to tiscali which was half the price and almost double the speed. OK when tiscali goes down in the SE it affects me in the NW but heck, I think I could put up with that for the lower cost and better speed.

Cable isnt in my area so isnt an option.
