No PPP connection on router

Switch it off and on? You never know. I've found with mine and others I've seen that it can take some time to establish the PPP connection (but once it does it'll work forever).

I think the PPP part is down to BT, but you still need to report it through the ISP. If the ADSL light is on, then the line is physically okay.

It was for me, an exchange problem. After weeks of Indians telling me that the line was OK so it must be my router (when I knew that "the line is tested OK" meant that a flag on their CRM screen said it was supposed to be OK), finally I had to play it like poker: call their bluff with my money. I got a BT engineer callout, which would cost me £60 unless it was proved to be their fault. It only took him a few seconds to show that it was their fault: "the card in the exchange hadn't been reset".

Sorry, can't talk any more. Blood pressure rising. That old feeling of wanting to out and go postal on BT Yahoo.

Called my ISP support line, who said they couldn't see any fault in the area, including the exchange, which I thought was a bit odd.

Anyway, the PPP connection eventually came back, 5 hours after I first noticed the problem this morning. No idea what it was but so damn annoying.

I used to get this all the time on my Orange Livebox. After many an hour searching some forums, it was suggested disabling UPnP. I did and it's worked fine ever since. I aso recently installed one of those BT faceplates. Instead on getting just 1.5-2meg on an 8meg line, I'm now getting 6meg. Deffo worth doing IMHO.
