Some problems are due to updates, with trustedinstaller frequently running.
It seems there is a thing called taskscheduler, access it via help. Check it out on every user because it only shows local tasks.
You may find like I did that there are tasks scheduled to update software you thought you'd uninstalled yonks ago or current software where there is no indication on the panel that it auto updates.
Can't seem to remove inessential MS ones like mcupdate or the Google update but you can make the latter fail by deleting the obvious file in windows/tasks.
Also from IE tools remove live feeds updating if you don't use them. (Although that doesn't seem to work either on mine). I believe other browsers have similar.
