Just cut the RJ45 plug off a network lead and put a 13A plug on. It might work and is probably safe.

Well, that's what I thought. Some say this in the blurb, some don't. The house has 3 different distribution oxes so it could be an issue. But, I've got some things to try.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostLooking into intercoms a while back and I thought the two devices had to be on the same mains loop for transmission via mains to work. Could be wrong.Comment

Mine's on two different rings (i.e. upstairs and dowstairs - can't afford more floors than that
).
The traffic's all encrypted, which suggests the signal can leak out the house and down the street to some degree. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

will the network over mains work with games consoles?
or does some software need to be insatalled on the machines using this network connection method

sounds good - no issues with encryption or anything - not that I am too bothered about my gaming habits leaking to the next door neighbours mains circuit but if they can get on to my network they could get access to other things?Comment

The encryption is in the device you plug into the mains socket. When you unpack them from the box, connect the pc to one of them and define the encryption key. Do the same with the others connected to the pc. Once done you can connect anything with a ethernet port to the device.Originally posted by original PM View Postsounds good - no issues with encryption or anything - not that I am too bothered about my gaming habits leaking to the next door neighbours mains circuit but if they can get on to my network they could get access to other things?
At least the devolo works this way. Also the meter is supposed to block the signal from going outside the house mains. This default font is sooooooooooooo boring and so are short usernamesComment
