Are Belkin for real? WIFI jokers

Got a Belkin N1 draft router. Flaky heap of tulip. If it aint broke, leave well alone. Been stable ish with my laptop using 54G card.

Yesterday bought an F5D8071 express card, N1. Connects then drops and thats it. You need to reset the card, then it connects and then drops.

I had it connected for a whole 10 minutes last night.

Running Vista Home Prem. Already needed to reboot the router since using the new card. Kit is chuffing expensive so not too impressed to be honest. Used InSSIDer to check other wifi networks in the street and decided to move my channel to 7 as everyone else is using 11, but still no better.

Totally run out of ideas. I do notice that whatever I buy these days never works so perhaps I'll start an anti list so people know what to avoid.

Assuming that you have the same router as myself, download the pre-release firmware from http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/pro...32uk4&scid=282

This fixed most of my wireless and wired problems. If that doesn't work, then I wish you the best of luck in fixing the problem. :-)

Tried. Router hung. Said it could be unresponsive for 180s but after 10 minutes I grew impatient and yanked the power cord. When it came back up it was still on the old version of the firmware.

So there's patches but I can't apply them.

I have told Belkin I will rip the whole lot out and replace with another Vendor.

2nd attempt was successful. Been online with no drops for 5 minutes now which is a record. TIA.

No probs. I would have asked how you went about applying the firmware the first time around (i.e. a cable directly connected to the router, etc). However, I suspect that you tried to apply it originally just as it was about to hang.

The main thing is that it works. I haven't had any problems with my router. Most problems are now with the Cable Modem itself, which needs a reboot every now and then.
