    which DVD rip application ?

What is the best free application for ripping DVD's ?

Needs to be compatible with vista and XP.

I tried to torrent cloneDVD last night but the blasted thing was riddled with trojans.

    Thanks in advance.

    DVDShrink is pretty good.
If at first you don't succeed... skydiving is not for you!

      Agreed.

Rips most of them ok and shrinks them down to fit on a normal DVD.

DVDShrink is superb and does (IMO) about 95% of discs

But add DVDFab HD Decrypter (long name but great free product here) to your toolbox. Whatever DVDShrink can't manage to do direct, use this tool to rip onto your hard drive then use DVDShrink to squish down the image ready for re-burning.

CloneDVD with AnyDVD here - definitely worth persevering with.
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

DVDFab 5 when DVDShrink doesn't work.

              Windows or Mac

Is DVDShrink windows only? Is there a similar program for Mac X?

Handbrake used to do the whole thing, but they removed the functionality to decrypt DVDs about 6 months ago. Now you need to use MacTheRipper (To get a video_TS folder) & Handbrake (to compress to your favourite format) combined.

OSX DVD player will open and play a Video_TS folder.

                  However it is not free.
Costed about $30US when I bought them
