Since my new ISP don't support a news server (apparently nobody uses them anymore), can anybody recommend a free news server?

I suspect the OP is after a public usenet server. If so it's worth looking at one of the usenet server indexes, such as Maxbaud.Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?Comment

Other sites:
sunsite.dk - free, but I believe it's mainly for open source type newsgroups. Details here.
news.individual.net - very reilable, and I've been using it since about 2000 without any problems. 10 Euro a year and well worth it in my opinion. Details here.Last edited by Sysman; 17 September 2008, 22:19.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment

I can still find most stuff from that era on comp.lang.javascript though, sufficiently that I was recently able to thank Eric Lippert of Microsoft for the tremendous help he gave to the group back then, when those of us trying to get things working on IE3 had to struggle with meaningless error messages due to a bugLast edited by NickFitz; 18 September 2008, 02:23. Reason: Eric Lippert didn't just give some help, he gave the only help we had from MS in those dark days :-)Comment
