I guess MS have themselves to blame for making Windows XP too stable/fast/well supported in its twilight years.
That's the real problem - so many of the features that were supposed to make the-OS-eventually-called-Vista something special were pulled (such as WinFS), largely because of the major developer effort that had to be transferred to improving security for XP SP2 and Server 2003. In the end what was delivered gives the impression of simply having a few glitzy UI features which scarcely make it worthwhile to leave XP SP2/SP3.

I think the only reason I'd be cautious about using Win2K is that it hasn't benefited from the major security improvements seen in XP SP2 - I'd be wary of attaching it to the Internet without a very solid external firewall in place. Other than that it really does most or all of what one needs from a Windows machine.

I agree - the only real benefit of XP over Win2K I've seen is being able to switch users.

Ah yes - so Windows has that now? Jolly good, looks like they're starting to work out how to write an OS
