However, like you say either stick with the version of onecare or ditch it for a free one.
    £37.99 I've just renewed mine.

If you have configured it properly it has an excellent firewall, phishing filter & anti-virus and anti-spyware. along with several other excellent features.
Running certain Anti-virus programs alongside one care can cause severe conflict problems, I would check the Microsoft list of conflicting programs before installing another.

Also be aware that running two firewalls in tandem can significantly slow down your system and cause further conflicts.

I run One care alone on a Vista platform and have no complaints whatsoever.

Think carefully about what you are about to do.

Apparently I had a few Trojans. The reason is UAT was not on. One care is utter crap unable to remove the Trojans. Moreover the fucin product asked me to remove ad-aware or wont install because of "perfomance issues" when running multiple scan engines. **** off Microsoft. Ad-aware has been since day 1 of malware.

How did you know you had Trojans?
You didn't perchance use an online free systems check
It didn't come up with a list of Trojans &/or viruses that needed cleaning form your system?
The only problem I ever had with 1 care was when I was running Norton alongside it. since I removed Norton, nothing has got through and I am more than happy.

THis is what the Once Care website has to say about it.

                All-in-one protection and maintenance
In one convenient package, Windows Live OneCare helps protect your computer, uses its optimization features to keep your PC running at its speediest, and even regularly backs up your important files:

Protection Plus uses antivirus and antispyware scanners, a managed two-way firewall, and integrated anti-phishing technology to protect your computer from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, hackers, phishing, and other threats. It runs continuously, but you can scan individual files and folders for viruses on demand simply by right-clicking them. You can even scan attachments you receive via Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger.
Performance Plus regularly defragments your hard disk, removes any unnecessary files that may clog your computer, and helps ensure important security updates from Microsoft are installed efficiently and on time.
Backup and Restore regularly copies your important files and settings to CD, DVD, external hard disk, network drive, or other data-storage device.
No to me it doesnt look like it's doing anything that any halfway compentant PC owner can't do for themselves with 5 mins work to set it up, for free.

Decent Anti Virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Zonealarm and scheduled defrags and backups are all things you can set up easily that do everything one care does and doesnt cost you anything.

Free online Housecall scan told me I had the trojans. I tried using Onecare online to remove them , but it said it was unable to do so ( although it did detect them ) . Then Avast! got rid of them.

Unfortunately the idiots at Microshaft have this function as a free add on

                    Malicious Software Removal Tool

It was one of my cribs on here a few weeks back, that One care was great at detecting, stopping & quarantining them, but bloody useless at removing them.
I was moaning about having to remove them manually.

Another prob with 1 care is that with emails it only checks them when opened so be careful.

I use SUPERAntispyware (Yes they have a free version).
Though to be honest, nothing has got past the One care package yet.

The others that you list have a tendency to conflict
