    Mobile internet problem

    Hello all,
    Any help would be appreciated....

I have a Orange mobile internet usb dongle which, when inserted into a PC or laptop for the first time, loads its own software. any subsequent uses on the same machine means that the usb dongle takes you straight to the 'connect' screen'. Both of my machines are running Windows.

My niece has been given a Asus Eee-PC. Here is an example: (http://www.powerupmobile.com/product...FRKS1QodaVUgUQ) . When I plug my (working) mobile dongle into this, nothing happens. Nor does anything happen when I plug in the USB dongle that she has bought from '3'. This machine is running Linux.
    Is that the issue?
How do I get the USB dongle to load automatically?
I have tried to find it as a 'device' but can't locate it in Linux.

    Many thanks,
    Doddy.

For the Asus specifically, these instructions may help (if you ignore the Linux vs. Windows blathering )

(For Linux more generally try this article. The command-line stuff at the start might look a bit freaky, but you only need to do that to configure it - there's instructions for use through a Gnome GUI tool further down.)

Thanks for the shortcuts and answer

I don't get home until Friday, so can only try it then.

      Cheers

        problem solved

My sister took the Eee PC back to Currys or wherever, and bought a Windows laptop. No more compatibility issues.
