    connecting to WPA protected network

Hi, my laptop is old and will only take WEP keys. Is there some way I can update my system so it will let me connect to WPA encrypted networks?

    Cheers

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Get a new wireless dongle that supports WPA.. A Netgear unit that supports 'N' runs about £30..

Isn't it a software thing? I have XP service pack 2 and it expects a WEP key.

      Thinking this might do it?

Or is it also a card thing?

That is an update for WPA2.. I believe WPA support was built into SP2..

I believe it is also a chipset thing.. Installing the MS update is not going to hurt, though.. I would try it first..

Cheers, I have SP 2 but it still expects an old style WEP key and nothing else (when clicking connect to network). I could get the network admin to switch to WEP, but I don't expect he will do it. Perhaps it's time for a new laptop!

Or spend £15 on upgrading your wireless.

But only you can make that business decision

Excuse my lack of knowledge on this but will that work on WPA networks?
Seems to me the software is the first issue?

I have XP SP2 and it works on WPA as well as WEP.

The chipset in the wireless unit needs to support WPA because it is the chip that does the encryption/decryption not the software. The software is just the interface for you, the user.. The unit MM posted does not say explicitly that it supports WPA, so I would say no.

This Buffalo (£16) will do the job as will this Netgear (£27).
