Hi, my laptop is old and will only take WEP keys. Is there some way I can update my system so it will let me connect to WPA encrypted networks?

Isn't it a software thing? I have XP service pack 2 and it expects a WEP key.

That is an update for WPA2.. I believe WPA support was built into SP2..
I believe it is also a chipset thing.. Installing the MS update is not going to hurt, though.. I would try it first..The "Fit" hits the "Shan"Comment

Cheers, I have SP 2 but it still expects an old style WEP key and nothing else (when clicking connect to network). I could get the network admin to switch to WEP, but I don't expect he will do it. The chipset in the wireless unit needs to support WPA because it is the chip that does the encryption/decryption not the software. The software is just the interface for you, the user.. The unit MM posted does not say explicitly that it supports WPA, so I would say no.Originally posted by Bagpuss View Post
