    I need a Linux guru!

I've installed fedora 9 onto my laptop, but the FAT 32 partition I've got all my music stored on doesn't seem accessible. It's visible in the Computer window, but I can't mount it or open it. When I try either of these things nothing happens. Any ideas?

Have a look in the logs may give an indication to whats wrong.
try. dmesg in a terminal window
You may need to be root.

I wasn't logged in as root

I'm not good with this Linux thing. I think I should give up and go back to XP...

Check out the entry in /etc/fstab. If you want to mount the file system as non-root isn't there a "user" option in fstab? I'm not a Unix admin, try "man fstab". What sort of disk is it, permanently installed HD, some sort of USB based HD or semaphore flags based HD?

I have no idea what fstab is or how I'd check it

I'm equally numpty with Linux but don't they all have a config tool like control panel for this sort of stuff i.e. Yast?
