Trouble with most Win Mobile phones is call quality - tried a couple and the earphone sounds like a set of headphones in a tin can. Ten metres away...

For what you want to do, maybe a blackberry? Just don't go for more than a 12 month contract as the build quality is less than stellar.

      iPhone

Ive had my iPhone for a few months and didnt think id like it...

Internet is excellent, always available and very quick...the zoom feature is excellent, just pinch the screen and you have crystal clear vision of your webmail...general surfing is pretty cool...

email is excellent too...mine trundles off every arf hour and gets any new emails...settings are quite simple but all you need to get going...

texting is well easy...the touch keyboard is quite forgiving !!! the zoom on the sms feature is cool...so is the auto correct !!!

Installer is good too...there are thousands of apoplications out there ready for you to install free...

Ive had a new phone every month for the past 4 years so tried em all...

this ones up there ( and I dont even like music !!! )

      ...one criticism...iTunes is C.R.A.P !!!

id have preferred to drag and drop in explorer...

I've got a Blackberry 8100 and I think it's quite a nice unit to use.

I can call, message, text, email all from it and browse the net. It's not bulky and the battery life is reasonable.

I did have an 02 XDA Orbit. I thought it was a terrible phone. The screen glared horrendously in sunlight so bad I couldn't actually use it. The call quality was poor and the battery life wasn't stellar.
See that guy over there, working 24/6, that permie?
        That's you that is

I would be very interested in a next gen iPhone, if it did 3G I would be very interested. Alas I don't think we are likely to see one for at least another year. With that in mind may as well upgrade to the latest and greatest now and then wait for next gen iPhone to come out

Exactly what I thought and did.
I'm hoping that in 18 months time the next gen version will have been out for a few months which would be a good time to upgrade to it.

In terms of what is on the horizon now, this may help:

That doesn't help - now I want one of those rather than what I can get now ...

From my own research it's good and that's the phone that I'll most likely get in a couple of months time when my current contract expires. It's been superseded by N96 now, so maybe if N96 is out by the time I'm getting a new phone I'll get that one.
