Shopping around for a camcorder with a budget of 350£..any suggestions....??

the hard drive based ones seems to be the thing to pick but they look a bit bulky than the dvd based or the tape based ones..on the other hand the dvd based ones don't allow editing and the tape based ones wud be soon obsolete...really getting confused here ....

It's all horses for courses.

I like the tape stuff, best quality (by quite a long way), the DVD ones are limited by the amount of footageyou can fit one, ant the HD ones are getting better.

I just bought a Hitachi DZ Hybrid camcorder.

You can record onto HD or DVD.

You can burn DVDs from movies you've saved on HD without using a pc

and it takes an SD card for pictures or picture capture from DVD / HD

Best purchase I've made for a while....

No, but every Sony product I've bought has fallen apart very quickly - apart from the telly which is going strong at about 12 years.

VCR ... collapsed
DVD ... reverted to only playing CDs
radio... now only picks up FM reception so to TMS

I don't buy Sony any more.

After being really happy with Sony for many years, last year I bought a Sony DVD Recorder for £180 rather than spending £70 for a no name one in Tesco.


After using it for 18 months I wish I'd bought the no name one.
The software in it is rubish.
It's slow and unresponsive when playing bought DVD's
About once in every 10 uses for playing DVD's (shop bought and recorded), it will just crash and no buttons on it will respond, needing a hard reset.

Recorded DVD's will only play on about half of the players I have tried them on (around 6 DVD players and 6 computers).

Not impressed
