    Laptop Recommendations

Newbie here, so apologies for the stupid question. Only kidding. haha.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a laptop for my 12 year old daughter for Xmas. She will use it for socialising (obviously) and for schoolwork. Can anyone recommend any good deals at the moment? Also, what sort of configuration do you think I should be looking at for an educational machine?

A Lenovo (formerly IBM) would be good for a teenage since they are hardwearing.

    Btw, was never a try.

I've used Acer a lot and would recommend them.

eBuyer have some deals on all the time.

      Any idea on budget?

If your budget will stretch, Sony do a nice pink one.

Just noticed a distinct lack of Dell references.

Time was they'd have been top of the list with the rider 'nice machine, crap service'.
              Have they fallen from favour?

I've had one since 2001 (Inspiron 4000) and am still happy with its performance (albeit with OS, memory and HD upgrades).

I've never rated Dell, to be honest - had a couple of laptops and always had problems with them. I know that some people rave about them, but my personal experience was bad, so I won't mention them.

Dell Latitude D630. Buy a 3 year warranty though...

I've had multiple Dell laptops from multiple consulting jobs. They all are usually a good bog standard laptop. For my personal one I bought XPS M1710 about a year ago. Never been happier with the build quality. They've gone a long way Dell.
