I'm in the market for a new laptop, budget of around £400. I want something with 60gb+ hd, 1gb RAM, DVD burner, wifi, smartcard slot, not too big not too small and a decent brand - any recommendations?

At the last place I worked at we would use Dell & Insight for our kit.
Although desktops/laptops always came from Dell, my Insight account manager would always give me comparable quotes of HP kit which were suprisingly competitive.
I have no experience of HP laptops, but going on price/specification, they look quite good.

Keep an eye out here for some good (and cheep) Dell stock - these are actually sold by Dell themselves!

HP laptops are tulipe - we've had 4 and 4 have failed one way or another. I'm currently using one without the battery as it won't boot with it plugged in.Originally posted by ClippyAt the last place I worked at we would use Dell & Insight for our kit.

I'd steer clear..."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

I managed to bag a bargain here - about 2k worth of laptop for 1200 quid.
However, do your research - a guy I know bought quite a recent model for a reasonable price from the outlet store, but on checking the "full" retail price a few days after delivery he realised it wasn't that much of a deal - about 3% discount."See, you think I give a tulip.
