he wants dynamic date - if you want "effective from .. to ..." then you might as well use Word or HTML. Bear in mind that some places REQUIRE Word CVs.

"Bear in mind that some places REQUIRE Word CVs."
Sad isn't it?
OpenOffice to the rescue if I need it then.
But an awful lot of stuff comes as .PDF nowadays. Of course agencies won't like them because it's harder to copy and paste from them, but for display purposes they get the thing as _you_ intended it to be seen, rather than depending on _their_ Word settings.Comment

So what would you recommend?
Straight text is my preference for CVs.Comment

Almost everything reads RTF.
Tends to come out a bit odd on occasion, but I can live with that.
Used WordStar for years, ah, dear dead days beyond recall.
Had to use a dos editor with WS commands the other day & was completely lost for about 5 mins til it all came back to me.Comment

Personally I've got 3 versions - text, html and WordDoc - might add PDF to it.
My recomendation would be to give your CV in the format that is most appropriate to situation - if they ask for DOC then give them what they want.
Oh yeah,. its best to default to Word 95 .DOC format - not some fancy new Word 2003 or whatever it is.Comment

Basic installs of MS word doesn't always include the RTF converter - strange that it disappeared about the time Microsoft decided to attack the mail market whose leader was Lotus Notes (which uses RTF extensively). So despite RTF being considerably safer than .doc you can't allways use it.Comment
