    Spoofing IP

    Question to overseas contractors.

I can't listen to Five Live football commentaries and other stations as my IP address is detected as German.

E.g. I wanted to see a clip of Top Gear:
"We're sorry, but for rights reasons if you're outside the UK you won't be able to watch any of the video content on bbc.co.uk/bbctwo."

Anyone have a work-around so that I can listen to UK stuff ?

    Cheers

You need access to UK based HTTP or RTSP proxy.

Incredibly annoying isn't it? Even worse for those like a couple of colleagues who have a home in the UK and pay their licence fee.

Sorry, I don't have an answer either.

IF you have a home machine you can set up as a proxy, then bounce your connection through that and it should work.

Usefull for all sorts of other reasons as well.

Squid is probably the best one out there and runs on Windows or your flavour of *nix / Linux

This http://uk.slingmedia.com/page/home and Sky+ does the trick.

IP Spoofing won't help you, proxying will as others have said, but the performance may be tulipe. I remember watching the 6 nations from the US streamed through a free UK based proxy - it was terrible to watch...

Just google for a free UK proxy - you'll find something.

            Older and ...well, just older!!

              Bullet fast replies !! Cool.

I wuold rather not leave a machine permanently powered on in the UK but don't rule it out. Would need to administer it / provide bandwidth etc.

Slingbox: Nice gadget. I've looked at these a couple of years ago. Depends on solid uplink like 600 kb/s.

              I'll keep researching.

Top Gear is shown on BBC World on Sunday evenings in Germany, well where I am it is.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Admin on Squid is zero once you have it up and running and bandwidth probably costs less than a Sky subscription. You'd need to leave the Slingbox and the Sky/Freeview reciever powered on permanently anyway and you'd still need bandwidth to access it as well.

As a dedicated solution to watching TV via the net it's probably a better choice, but if you just want to get round the BBC IP restrictions then Squid is quick, easy and free and can be usefull for a lot of other stuff as well.
