    PC crashes due to Netgear???

My PC crashes every couple of hours!! The Windows XP message says this after a forced crash/restart... but I don't have Netgear??

    ---------------------------------

Problem caused by Netgear Ethernet (fa312nd5.sys)

This problem was caused by Netgear Ethernet (fa312nd5.sys). Netgear Ethernet (fa312nd5.sys) was created by Netgear.

Microsoft has been unable to contact the manufacturer and has no further information available at this time.

    Recommendation

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For more information about Netgear Ethernet (fa312nd5.sys), go online to the Netgear website:

    Netgear

If you are unable to fix this problem and continue to receive errors, you can also remove Netgear Ethernet (fa312nd5.sys).

Seems like your Network Interface Card (NIC); first thing I would do is re-install \ update the driver to the latest version. If that fails replace the NIC.

Have a look in device manager and tell us what NIC you've got.

Sorry guys I'm a hardware numpty. Where in Device Manager is the NIC detail you need?

Also how would I get the latest driver software -- from the manufacturers website?

        Thanks for your help!

Right click on "My Computer" and choose manage; then from device manager you should be able to expand to your network adapter. right click again and choose properties and you should get your NIC details.

1394 is not a NIC its a Firewire port

Apparently I have the latest version (for v1) ... and I've never updated it since I bought the PC in 2001 !

Edit: Just checked and the drivers haven't changed since then , they're still version 5.0 119.
