Plate Spin & Migration

Will Plate Spin allow you to create a new Windows Server Instance in a new DC that's using a stretched AD between the original & new DC and address any Windows machine name issues allowing the new instance to be stood up for testing while the old continues to function

The new instance will have a new IP & I was thinking of a new DNS entry as the way to allow this but some apps may reference the Windows Server name and cause issues

Anyone encountered this issue before?

Never used Plate spin, but to my understanding you are essentially creating a clone and want it to be online at the same time as the original VM. In which case you will have to rename the clone host name while disconnected from the network in addition to changing the IP. Otherwise it will wreck the AD computer account and drop the source VM from the AD.

EDIT: be aware though...... If you're on the same AD you may have issues with apps that are hard coded.
Best bet is to Platespin the AD FSMO role holder as well and stick it in a segregated network to be safe. You really don't want any data leakage from your test systems to production
