    I spent a bit more.

No development work but used day in and day out (Office mainly but also a load of Visio and spreadsheets). Very robust.

Previous Acer was £600 in 2010 and lasted until late last year - battery life and small size was key.

Got a Fujitsu Lifebook. Small foot print, long battery life, Ethernet port. Happy with it.

I should clarify... the laptop will be for admin and day to day stuff. Not dev work. Thanks

Dell shop then as eek advised before.

To be fair any well known brand will have a laptop that is suitable it is just a case of whether you like the keyboard etc.

As I said before I love the Lenovo products but this is the latest response this morning after I accepted and paid for a repair on 26th January.

I would like to point out a detail on the mail you are referring to.
The highlighted machine details correspond to what you had before!
Here we are proposing you a machine which has the similar specifications comparing to the one you had!
But never have we promised you to offer the exact same product.

Please let us know if you have any other questions our doubts.

          Best regards,

          "Dear ............,

Please note that following our internal investigation, we would like to offer you a free replacement of the machine below:

          Serial Number: HA0MYJ9K
          Type: YB1-X91F

This is after I told them that an Android Yoga Tab 3 was not a suitable replacement for a Windows Yoga Book.

Dell Latitiude, Lenovo Ideapad, Acer Travelmate.
I've had all 3 in the last 10 years, and none failed.
Don't buy what is on the shelf at PC World / Currys - get a business grade laptop.
PC World / Currys do sell them, as do laptopsdirect and Dell Outlet.

Just ordered a new one myself from Dell Outlet.

I grabbed a Surface Pro 4 (new one is out now i think).

It's perfect.. High end pc, as well as a notepad. The stylus works fantastically with OneNote. Use it for every meeting.

Light, thin, great keyboard. Love it.

There are some stunning barely used Dell devices on eBay, and some good as new ones on their outlet to boot... although interesting on the price of the Surface Pro 4 these days.

                      How about a MSI GS63VR 7RF?

That and the GS73VR was mentioned as an alternative to a Mac in the comments section of a MacWorld article. (Mac owners are getting increasingly disillusioned with Apple these days).
