    Have a text file, want a copy containing all and only those lines containing, say, character [.

    in unix, grep "\[" file.txt > new.txt
    on MF, x all;f all [;del all x

    How would you do it in Windows?

      Download a grep for Dos/windows?
      They do exist
      Otherwise use Find & output to a file if the windows is advanced enough
      Works on my xp pc - just tested it. You get a header line - just strip it off

      Find "[" filename.txt > fileoutput
