Not quite the same, but I was hamstrung with Sky's SR102 when I moved a year ago. Previously on Virgin, and had their SuuuuuperHub acting as modem only and an Asus RT-AC68U doing everything, but Sky's box-o-tricks had no modem mode so.....still, bought and connected in a Netgear D7000 a week or so back and the difference is night and day. Full VDSL modem (and ADSL) and excellent router functionality in one box

I assume OP is on a DSL line and the AirPort extreme don't have DSL modem. So although you might not be able to use the HH as a modem only (haven't tried that), you can use it as a router in front of the AirPort and have all your kit on the AirPort WiFi/LAN which is presumably already configured.

My experience with the HH5 WiFi is not that bad, but it's definitely not on the AirPort extreme level. Oh and there is the "secret" second WiFi SSID it runs leeching your broadband to facilitate the BT WiFi that you have to opt-out of, as someone already mentioned.

You can stop the WiFi on the HH and connect one of the LAN ports to the WAN port of the AirPort. On the AP WAN you will have either static 192.168.X.X or get it from the HH DHCP, then let the AP DHCP roll assign 10.x.x.x to your devices that will have to be wired to the AP not HH or getting WiFi from AP. You will have to disable the pass-through or w/e it's called on AP where it passes on the up stream router DHCP etc. to the devices attached to the AP

The pain is if you need port forwarding you will have to set them on both the HH and AP so HH-WAN > AP-WAN > AP-LAN
Yeah I have ports forwarded for VPN etc

Hopefully you still get an Openreach Box and a HH5, worse case I can use the HH5 as described above but just forward all ports to the AE rather than just the ones I use, or if it has a DMZ feture stick it in there

            Bollocks!!

The kit has arrived and it's just a HH5, no open reach box

Erm, I thought one of the benefits of the HH5 is you didn't need the Open Reach Box so why would they send one?

I was under the impression you got both, but as you say little point in having the Open Reach Box with a HH5, might check eBay

What is the HH5 like? Should I stick with it or try and get the AirPort Extreme running somehow (and thus avoid having to reconfigure everything else that is attached to it?
I had a Vigor router all nicely set up. BT man arrived with HH5, I explained the issue. He said "oh I've a van load of modems, people with Vigors just plug the modem in to the Vigor and you're good to go". He fetched one from the van and sure enough it took about 5 seconds to plus in and everything was as before. Perfect! And free!

Managed to disable most of the HH5, WiFi/DHCP etc so most things are being handled by the AAE, all works beautifully and noticing significant improvements to using the HH5 on its own (WiFi used to drop out quite a lot, internal speeds much better, network scans taking forever etc.

Only problem is that the BT TV just cannot work with the AAE, something to do with IGMP and multicasting, had to hardwire this back to the HH5, I have admitted technological defeat
