When they first called it Sky which BSB Sky got stopped in about 5 seconds really shows how thick folk in Microsoft are.

Sorry to nitpick but I'm genuinely slightly dubious about your intended meaning.Originally posted by lilelvis2000 View PostMS have announced that they are going to switch OneDrive for Business to the code for OneDrive anytime soon.
Should there be a "not" in there, i.e. they're "not going to switch any time soon".
Or are they planning to switch some time soon?Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Nope, I read it in the Register I think, where MS are going to move from groove to the OneDrive code. Which will be great, once it happens.Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostSorry to nitpick but I'm genuinely slightly dubious about your intended meaning.

I haven't heard that OneDrive for Business is being replaced completely but they are trying to patch it instead. As it stands I agree it's is pile of tulip and the restricted characters being one of my and clients main gripes and is a limitation in SharePoint too (OneDrive for Business is essentially a SharePoint document library) as it frequently breaks syncing.
There is some hope on the horizon but looking forward to seeing what is going to be included in Office 2016 ...
Web version of OneDrive for Business picks up new tricks this month
I'm looking forward to Skype for Business that should be out in the next few months - the Lync client is much better than Skype and it seems pointless having to have both apps running at the same time.Comment

Not really, it has nothing to do with satellite TV. I was surprised MS didn't fight it harder TBH, perhaps they already wanted the "one" brand for XBox? Shame because SkyDrive is a great name in my view.Originally posted by minestrone View PostWhen they first called it Sky which BSB Sky got stopped in about 5 seconds really shows how thick folk in Microsoft are.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

SKY is a trademark, you just cant go around copying them.Originally posted by d000hg View PostNot really, it has nothing to do with satellite TV. I was surprised MS didn't fight it harder TBH, perhaps they already wanted the "one" brand for XBox? Shame because SkyDrive is a great name in my view.
Also SKY are an ISP and offer a range of cloud like services.
A really naïve move.Comment

Just because they are a trademark doesn't mean it can't be used, but you have to be in a related industry to claim that.Originally posted by minestrone View PostSKY is a trademark, you just cant go around copying them.
For example, Granada TV attempted to stop Ford calling their car the Granada because they aren't in the same industry; whereas whoever created the Wombles managed to stop a company calling themselves Womble Skip Hire on the grounds that one of the key characteristics of the Wombles was that they removed rubbish from Wimbledon, and therefore performed the same kind of service as a skip hire company.
That's the reason that they didn't argue - it would have been too close. Once could attempt to argue that the trademark is too broad (see Portaloo's attempts to stop the name Portablast - a portable explosive - on the grounds that they had a trademark on "porta") but I'd assume that Microsoft didn't think that they would win that one.Originally posted by minestrone View PostAlso SKY are an ISP and offer a range of cloud like services.Comment

Untrue. You could have a business/product SkyDrive based on flying.Originally posted by minestrone View PostSKY is a trademark, you just cant go around copying them.
Personally I still think being an ISP isn't that close... but also trying to come up with a product name to use around the world that doesn't infringe anyone in any country must be difficult. What if Belgium has a company "One Internet" as an ISP?Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Not true, McDonalds will go after pretty much any thing that uses Mc in a name. They win some and they lose some but they don't confine that action just to fast food..Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostJust because they are a trademark doesn't mean it can't be used, but you have to be in a related industry to claim that.
