Charge a mobile phone from a shaver socket?

On Seat61 it says of the sleeper carriages:

There are no power sockets in the sleeper compartments, just a 2-pin 240V shaver socket, but in practice you can use this for recharging your mobile phone if you have a 2-pin adaptor. There are laptop and mobile charging points in the First Class Lounge at London Paddington. (link)

But I've never heard of an adapter to let you plug a UK plug into a shaver socket. The opposite is common - so you can charge your toothbrush from a normal 3-pin socket - but that's all that turns up when I search.

Any frequent travellers able to confirm or debunk this suggestion?

Where did you find that or what did you search for? I keep getting either what you posted the first time, or USB-powered shavers Image-searching that image throws up some... interesting... results.

As a shaver socket is basically a 110v system, any 110v two prong (basically all US adapters) to USB/Micro USB cables will work, you can go down to the 5v USB, but you will never be able to go UP to the standard 240v UK 3 Pin system

But is a UK shaver plug the same as a USA 2-pin mains plug i.e. are the pins in the right places? That's my concern, finding something that'll physically fit in the holes (ooh er).

The UK shavers are BS 4573 sockets but these are for dry areas only, more likely most bathroom shaver sockets would be BS EN 61558-2-5 which include an isolation transformer which usually also include the US output

If the shaver socket are round only, no, if they are round with the flat grooves (like the one in Unix's first photo) then yes

Most shaver sockets are combo of 110V/240V. You can simply use any EU 2pin adapter/charger if you plug it into the 240V side of the shaver socket
