Hello little newbies. There are some sweeties for you over in general. And a nice bunny for you to see.

Possibly. Ask them for a copy of the contract that was assessed and the assessment. A small number of agencies do take this seriously and use approved contracts, but the danger is that they change the odd term or two and still claim it's approved.Originally posted by jointear View Post...if an Agency tells me the contract is a standard one they supply to all IT contractors and has been assessed as outside IR35...
The standard advice is "Never believe an agent."

Loads of first timer materials to read through on the right hand side menu to help with your queries above.Originally posted by jointear View PostHello all
Another Im another newbie to the site, and to contracting. Got treated like a contractor and let go from a perm role so after a few years of recruiting IT contractors it's time to be one. Basics sorted, interviews in progress and first offer in hand, so I've either been lucky or should have tried this a couple of years ago.
Just a couple of bits of advice I'm looking for...if an Agency tells me the contract is a standard one they supply to all IT contractors and has been assessed as outside IR35 OK is that enough or should I use an independent review? This is for a 6 month contract.
Also any thoughts, experience, has worked / hasn't worked on approach to joining a new organisation and getting established during the first few weeks of a new contract? I've got my thoughts but am more interested in yours!
And in answer to your question in bold - yes you should use an independent review.

Hello Inv - you have already done better than I have by introducing yourself
I have also just dipped my toe into the world of contracting/consultancy being a long-time permie with a cushion of a redundancy pay-off I realised I didn't want to get on that treadmill again so put the feelers out to a bunch of my previous clients and managed to pick up a couple of contracts to keep me busy, how I will fare when these come to an end I'm not sure but happy to find out..
I stumbled across this group when looking for info in setting up my Ltd, impressed by the knowledge and experience being shared on this forum and enjoying the off-topic 'banter'

Hello all - Straight into the deep end
Just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to the world of contracting (but not contracts) and recognise that I have much to learn. The information some of the frequent posters have made available on the ContractorUK site and these forums have been enormously helpful in beginning my journey, so I would like to foremost thank all who have contributed to that.
I come at this new, but not blind:
I have an accountant
I have read about IR35 many times (always room for more)
My skills are in demand
I know how to use google to search the forum
I am on the fence about gladiators (perhaps I could be persuaded)
I bleed radiators hot because I'm not a pansy
Any questions, feel free to ask. I am sure I will see you around here plenty and maybe even out in the business world.
