If you do go down the Umbrella route, none of us should be charging you for weeks you don't work. All the Umbrella's I've come across only charge when they run a payment.

Either they hire your company or you yourself as a freelancer.

Thanks for the reply, but I didn't really understand what you meant. If an umbrella company is completely wrong, then what would be right?

I'm quite happy doing this for a short while btw, but will probably be looking for a full time job with a company soon. I'm just trying to find out the easiest way to deal with tax etc., while I do this bit of contacting.

Hi,

I've recently finished a regular job, and have now been offered some contract work. It's a decent daily rate, but it'll only be a few days here and there, so there may be weeks when I'm not doing any work, and it might not last that long.

Is an Umbrella Company right for this scenario? If so, does anyone know of one which doesn't charge for weeks when you don't work, or would you just recommend going with one of the popular ones regardless?
