Sounds like a driver issue to me. The card is tying to work out which monitors are connected and it's getting confused and blanking the output to each one as it does it.

My desktop does the same screen blacking thing, though I only have one monitor connected to it so I don't know if it messes up the Windows. This usually happens on startup, and is something to do with the Windows 7 permissions thing that's meant to dim the display, but on older graphics cards is only capable of blacking it out. I get exactly the same thing happen if I switch my printer on, for example. I don't know why as it doesn't actually ask for permission for anything, but it always does this and I haven't been able to work out why.

    Glitchy GPU?

The last couple of days, I've had my monitors do the same thing each day. I have 2 monitors plugged into the two outputs on my graphics card.

    - Both monitors suddenly go black for about 1/2 a second
    - This happens again about 2s later
    - When they come back on, all my windows are moved to monitor 1

I don't know if it's a coincidence but I did a big Windows Update sesh the day before this first happened. But I've no idea if it could be a driver bug or hardware. Can anyone suggest anything based on the symptoms, or give me things to check to help narrow it down?
