CCTV network up and running

Fancied one of these Sentryscope 21MP CCTV LOL but in the end I got 4 LILIN IPR 1080p cameras, 30 FPS at 1080p res, best VFM (Quality v Price) IMHO, although not cheap, there is CCTV for every budget. IMHO there is no reason to get a camera where you can barely identify what/who it is you are looking at.

2x Lilin IPR320ESX
2x Lilin IPR7424ESX

They come with free CMX surveillance software for recording and viewing, not as good as Milestone allegedly but works just fine.

Although I am planning to get a dedicated NVR at some point.

I'm fairly well aware of the DPA.

Good stuff, I was just amazed at what minefield this was when related to use of CCTV for private individuals.

What cameras did you go for Scrag Meister? I'm wanting to use the Raspberry Pi along with an IR motion sensing camera to get some footage of the monster Badger that's started digging up our lawn.

Looking on Amazon though, there's a big price difference between cameras that look the same spec. Want to install it inside the conservatory but don't know whether one of the cheapy cams could capture at say 10ft range in darkness from inside or whether I'd need an outdoors one?

I would suggest that you check out private CCTV and the Data Protection act.

I'm not sure what you camera has the ability to look at but be careful of any public areas (e.g. streets) or other private areas that aren't yours (e.g. Neighbours garden).

As noted in my blog, "I can see everything I need to see on my own property. However, the fact that the camera is limited to a moderate 3x zoom means that whilst it's more than enough to identify callers at the front door, the view it necessarily gives of any public areas and neighbouring houses actually has less resolution than the view I can get from looking out of my own front window or walking down the public street.". I took full account of the DPA when choosing the appropriate camera resolution and when siting it, and deliberately picked a camera that only had sufficient resolution to cover my own property. I used to work in the Police Service, so I'm fairly well aware of the DPA.

Hi - sorry quick question what cameras did you get, and what is the quality like in daytime/night time ?

As wanted to do this for a long time - but found IP cameras were either Chinese knockoffs, or would have had to go down the route of somehow converting analog cameras into IP

Ah, right. Nothing like that then...

My main PC is currently doing the recording.

The resolution on my cameras is 1920*1080, about 4 times the pixels on your example, and have 21 and 35 m IR lamps built in.
Nothing like wasting some money on a techy project.

Four cameras and a box YES, like the one you suggested, NO!

Cool. I did this as well recently; it was fun to tackle a 'hardware problem' for once.
