That settles it. Someone is winding you up. Tell them to stop wasting your time. All that time spent finding someone who doesn't atually exist could be spent doing something useful. If you don't believe us put an ad on Jobserve and see how many responses you get. No-one will be better than the one above. Or we'll eat out virtual hats. And buy you beer. Now there's a challenge.

We're all contractors btw. Well, there are some permies who have nowhere else to go. Most of them are programmers with little or no social skills. I'm into network infrastructure (mainly Microsoft - watch the others *spit*) projects myself. You can have me for £400 a day, so to speak, a little less if it's close to home and not to hard on the old grey stuff. I operate a generous referral scheme, my company will pay a handsome bonus to the agent who secures the right contract and (most importantly) the right terms. What else have you got on the go?

For £20K? Emma, bit of constructive here, the word "fantastic" appears twice in that sentence. Twice too many. Did it occur to you to tell the client he (or she) was being utterly unrealistic? (living on cloud****ingcuckooland would be how I would have put it.) Like someone else said, you can't possibly hope to find anyone even half-decent at these rates. Why waste your time, our time, and frankly the clients time looking for people at these rates. You're going to earn f-all on commission, the person you find (if anyone at all) is going to be a) not very good; or b) reasonably good and will leave as soon as he realises he's being underpaid by at least 15 grand. HP have been looking for an SMS and MOM guru for 6 months by my reckoning (judging by the calls I still get occasionally), but unless they improve drastically on £225 a day, they'll still be looking come Judgement Day.
We hope to see a distinct improvement in the quality of your postings (not to mention the quality of your rates ) in the coming weeks, so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, we're happy to help.

I suggest you be honest with your client and just say there's nothing you can do for them for that level of remuneration. There's no point in wasting their time or yours any further.

On this board, the residents seem to do quite a few things but very few of them related to freelance IT work. Shopkeeping, farming, evangelising, and plotting the international communist revolution appear to be the most common activities.

    P.S.
Take no notice of those jokers with their permiesuk website, there's no such thing.

May as well come clean, Emma. Surely your client is just trying to justify an Indian work permit by saying they advertised domestically but couldn't get anyone? The only person you might get to commute to London Bridge for £20k pa is someone with zero commercial experience straight out of university and I would say even that is doubtful.

I think cold calling senior Delphi bods and trying to poach their juniors will not work either. Best you are just honest with your client and tell them they are not being realistic with their remuneration.

Or is your client angling to get someone in from India and has commissioned you so that they can say they advertised the job domestically but got no takers so they can bring someone in cheap to satisfy a skills shortage?
You'd never get anyone from India to come here for £20,000. They'd work from there for that though.
