Ended up with a lenovo t510i, warranty upgraded to 5 years NBD. When I wanted a laptop available on Next day delivery instead of 2 weeks, with 64 bit OS, >4Gb ram (or upgradable), and nbd warranty - (dont want to hand it over for a couple of weeks if it went wrong)
Once I put in these restrictions & a reasonable screen size it came down to very few on the choice

John Lewis have a clearance this weekend - might be worth a look if you are after a bargain.
I've just bought an Acer Travelmate 5730 (last one of that model from Amazon) to replace my 3 year old Lenovo 3000 C200, which was reliable.

MacBook Pro will run everything you want, even windows under VM or Bootcamp. You can wander down to your local Apple store and pick one up tommorow.
