Yup, in this instance, the benefits of OSX didn't outweigh the annoyance factor. Was worth it as an exercise though.

Can't say I enjoy installing operating systems. However, I did make a little jotter out of an old fire alarm yesterday. Really proud of that.

I had a brief bash with Windows 7 yesterday. I don't know how old the PC concerned was, but it seemed very sluggish to me. I don't think much of that rotating ring thingy in place of the good old fashioned egg timer.

Installed Win 7 on an old Dell Latitude laptop (Pentium M 1.6GHz/2Gb RAM/37Gb HDD) and it is now 'flying'.

Significantly faster than Vista that was on there and scarily faster than my main laptop which I bought at the beginning of the year.

Really impressed with WIn 7's speed and stability so far.

Just need to troubleshoot what is slowing down my main laptop - hidden Samsung utilities no doubt.

just had some pain after uninstalling Norton on Windows 7...blue screen of death...a real pain..think its more to do with the Wireless Network Adaptor but not sure why this has reared its ugly head now. First impressions of Norton not good Im afraid :-|

I wouldn't let norton (or any of the big AV products) anywhere near my laptop. They tend to hinder more than help

finally a half decent OS from MS

I quite liked Windows 2000 and XP (service pack 3)
OK , not the most exciting operating systems in the world but they were stable.

I got the 64bit version, not had any problems yet

yup me too, on my Dell M4400 it runs without issues and it feels faster..

I will have to have a look at this. I dropped windows on home machines about 18 months ago and went for Ubuntu + Mac. Recently the mac was dropped too.

I should get windows 7 going on a virtual install, to see what the fuss is about.

A real upgrade or replacement? In place upgrade = recipe for problems.

I just backed up my daughter's Vista laptop, did a clean install of the free Dell Win 7 64-bit "upgrade" DVD and restored her data. No drama, whole thing took a couple of hours. Only had to manually install a single driver.

I'm still running the RC on a couple of machines - must get round to replacing these.

How sad - I'm looking forward to upgrading my laptop from Vista to Win 7.
