In iTunes, once the iPod is plugged in, select "enable Disk Use" and you can just copy files over as you wish.

AFAIK, Winamp will just let you use your iPod like any proper USB mp3 player as opposed to one that Apple tried to cripple with iTunes. You can simply synchronise between PC and iPod AFAIK. Apologies if I'm wrong on that score.

I use Winamp with my iPod, not iTunes. As far as I can see, using Winamp lets me use the iPod just like any other USB MP3 player and overcomes any attempt by Apple to cripple how you use the iPod between PC's etc.. HTH.

I don't just want to back-up the iPod, I want to listen to the music on my PC when I leave the iPod in the car...
