Yeah Nick, but I'm not going to risk a raw install of that patch destroying my workstation ever again.

Voodoo chicken for me - all the way

Actually, it makes sense if you think about it

    p.s. It worked!

I know Apple's marketing department would prefer you didn't think this.

I still prefer Apple's hardware and an OS X for various reasons.

It doesn't 'just work' but it works well enough.
Either you missed the obvious sarcasm, or he is an epic fool... I'm edging to the former but around here who can ever be sure?

It's the 24" last of the all whites, like yours. No hw mods except installing 8Gb of Kingston memory.

My iMac is about as vanilla as they come hardware-wise.

It seems a lot of people are stuffed with this update, in various ways. Not always to the point of non-bootability, but random apps stop working, erratic behaviour etc.

Must have been a 'Friday Patch'

Hmm, a couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a Lacie DVD external burner for my Mac, and I could have done the same with whoever put together the software installation CD.

    More than once.

Then repeat for Roxio (Toast) and HP (Lightscribe).

    Proper Pitiful.

Oh sorry, got carried away with the rant...

No problems with Apple's Security Update here (10.4.11 on a PPC system).
