I just followed the instructions about linking to the Livebox suing a computer where the ethernet connection was working.
The first problem was that the security key that was set up when I pressed the connect button was incorrect and had to be set up to the security number of the livebox - a 26-digit key rather than a 10-digit key

When I actually got the livebox connection on the other computer, the livebox was transmitting on a different channel so the livebox was changed to transmit on a different channel and hey-presto, a connection.

Either way you need to get access to he thing and turn off security to test or find a way to wipe it back to default (which might not help)

Yes, I have found a dedicated Orange forum but
    a) I only found it after I had posted here first
    b) I know the expertise of people here more than I know the expertise of the forum members - I know this is silly but I would rather ask the opinion of someone I know than someone I don't.

There should be a switch on it somewhere to do this. The Belkin ones use a combination of the little reset button and the power button to do a hard reset....should be in the instructions.....

The only key I have is the livebox security code - I tried that and it didn't work..... the only other thing I have is my sign-on password

Could be that the livebox has been previously used and someone has already set up a wep/wpa key, that’s why its so important to set these up with a wired connection.

Most likely you either have the passoword/security key wrong - try tying it in again - or the security on the Orange box is messed up. Thye do have a habit of havinf both WEP and WPA enabled at the same time and this causes problem. Turn off the security on it and try again. If that works it gives you somewhere to start from.
