Sounds like Steamdeck would fit the bill. You can install steam stuff, but also a bunch of emulators for retro stuff - either through SteamOS, or booting something like Batocera off a SD card. It can also stream from a gaming PC running Steam. Can also be docked like a Switch.

HWMBO has a switch and gets on well with it. Doesn't really use it as a handheld console but more as a portable one. Uses some kind of dongle to plug it into the TV and then a separate Xbox style controller.

Handheld gaming console
Any console game experts here?
I am possibly going to be away from home for a while in the not too distant future.
I do like a bit of gaming and have quite the custom setup at home with retro games. I have about 2000 available across a number of emulators.
I was thinking about getting a handheld console (yeah different) to keep boredom at bay whilst I am away.
Can my learned friends recommend a device please?
I have had a look about and things seem to vary wildly for example the Nintendo Switch at about £200 and the Asus Rog at £600!
I'm not sure I want to go to £600!!!!
Pity the Linux box I use for gaming isn't portable!!!Tags: None
