It's a really simple process now. All mobile providers have guides on what to do and how long it takes. From 1 July 2019, as a result of new rules from Ofcom, a customer can request a PAC by simply texting "PAC" to 65075

I have been porting my number to new mobile companies since the feature was made available, and have managed to keep the same mobile number for about 20 years.

Fairly simple, in fact I think the company you are going to do most of it. You just need to get a a PAC code from Vodaphone - dial 191 from your phone and ask them, they should get you one within a couple of hours and it's valid for 30 days.

Just a word of warning, make sure that the phone you are using is not locked to a particular network, as it may then take a bit longer. I don't believe that the companies are allowed to hard-lock phones any more, but if you've got a really old one, there might be an issue.

Transferring mobile number to another network

I'm considering moving a number, which would be a pain to lose, from Vodafone to giffgaff.

In general, is it fairly hassle free these days? Any pitfalls to be aware of?

    Thanks.
