Why do you need an answerphone? Isn't the free BT one enough?
I looked into getting one of these last year: BT Elements Weatherproof DECT Phone http://shop.jargonbusinesssystems.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products _id=287 [027076] - £52.30 : Jargon Business Systems, Communications Products for Business
They are pretty tough and I could sit outside the pub and still be able to make and receive calls.

If it's only the charging that is not working and you are happy with everything else, it might be worth it to check if there are chargers only for your handset model, most DECT phones offer such option. Will end up far cheaper than replacing 3 handsets and base station.

I also swapped the handset over with that sat in one of the other basestations.
Thus proving its the charger in the basestation, which is really annoying as its the main basestation/answerphone, and not just a charger unit.

After much research, I replaced it with a (Siemens) Gigaset C430A, and within 12 months the main basestation will not charge a handset, and the handset just sits bleeping.
The sound quality is not as good as my old Siemens, but then that was ~£120 for a single handset 10 years previously, and these are about ~£70 for 3 handsets, so I presume quality has dropped.
I need an answerphone, DECT handsets with a good speakerphone with mute for conference calls.
Does anyone have any recommendations ?

Panasonic Dects last pretty well. 3 Kids playing football with them and works fine still.
