No, you need to split the input before it reaches the cable modem. You can buy cable splitters specifically to do the job. That and a suitable bit of co-ax and you're sorted.

I have a Terratec 'Cinergy Hybrid XS' - picks up current analogue and freeview only. But, quality is good, supports Time Shifting, is USB2 so portable (aerial picks up good enough signal at work), and the Power Cinema software and Remote lets me control other programs as well, such as WinAmp, Media Player etc... the remote is programmable to a certain extent.
I use it on an old laptop that is silent, and connected visa SVH-S to my tv, while WiFi'd up to get an EPG, scheduled recording, all the usual, plays movies and mp3s from the main server through the living room audio etc.
But, if you are using a 64 bit OS, check VERY carefully for driver compatibility.
My next step is to replace the TV with a projector (when I find a decent one!), and just use the widescreen TFT monitor for watching the occasional TV program.

Apparantly analogue isn't. Depends if your provider still has a legacy analogue service.Originally posted by PondlifeAlso, won't it be encrypted?

Maybe this is a stupid question but would this work through a router. i.e. connect a cable to my TV in and another to my network card from my router attached to cable modem.
Also, won't it be encrypted?

They work with analogue cable. A friend in London has cable internet (but not TV) and he found that by splitting the cable and attaching it to his TV in card he could watch the full range of cable TV for nothing...Originally posted by MrsGoofI think you'll need more than a card to record off cable
