In Kirkstall, Leeds, I believe that it is something to do with hounds (the pub sign shows a huntsman with a pack of hounds).

I've heard of The Cock, Welwyn, but I've never bothered to check whether it really exists. There used to be one in Welwyn called The Clock, next to the A1.

Ive got a pub called the 'Steam Passage' up the road from one of my current clients, thought it may be a gay bar / pub, but its actually a straight up british boozer.
