The proponents of this equality have a very strange view of ethnicity. They just seem to want x% minority without considering the differences between them. Why should a bloke of Bangladeshi origin feel he is being represented by a chap from Ghana, or Pakistan for that matter? But then you can't possibly give air time to cultures of hundreds of different countries. It would be immensely costly.
And what about historical dramas set before the last few decades? Are we supposed to not have them at all or accept a ridiculous lack or realism?
Just maybe those who emigrate for a better life should accept a few downsides, that they can't take their whole culture with them and impose it on the host nation. They can't expect the country's citizens to renounce their entire history and heritage.
PS I expect many do. It's just the PC a*es and a few twats like Lenny Henry who keep dredging up this crap.

They wake up and their car has not been keyed, or the wheels or stereo nicked.
They don't get speeding/parking tickets for driving perfectly safely, or pulling through a red light letting an ambulance through.
The best local school is not allocated based on a corrupt relationship with the local priest and a claim to follow his superstition.
They are not being displaced from the workforce by out of control immigration.
There is no racial tension on the streets.
So its completely not realistic.

Maybe Ian Beale could convert to Islam and become a hate preacher.
