Nice with a spot of coke in it.

I had one once that was distilled in a cliff top distillery - the blurb on the bottle banged on about the salt from the sea blending etc to give unique blah blah flavour
I struggled to actually hold it down - it just tasted like sea water.

Most Islay whiskies are like that. Speysides are usually less smoky, more delicately flavoured so they're easier to drink.

It does have a taste of iodine to it initially. It gets challenging reviews, seems to be a marmite sort of drink.

Yeah never really got on with that type - like many others though!Originally posted by hyperD View PostPeat and dirt. I suppose I can see where the TCP smell comes from - trichlorophenylmethyliodosalicyl - phenoly smell. Yes, it does a bit!

Every time I get a new contract (including renewals) and I get the first invoice paid I treat myself to an 18y/o Laphroaig. Lovely stuff and a well deserved reward for getting the work!Originally posted by BigRed View PostI'm partial to an aged single malt with just a drop of water, but at the bottom of the price range, 10yr old Laphroaig is my favourite, but not to everyones taste. Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich are pretty good value at £22 at the Co-op currently. The cheap blended stuff does nothing for me.
I'm almost scared to try the really good stuff in case I like it too much.

Sounds nice. Interesting how the fashion of whisky labels and bottles change over time when the contents don't.
