I would hardly have described Highland Park as peaty, it's one of my favourites but I thought it was the opposite of peaty? Same goes for Jura (the ones I tried anyway).
The Whisky society put this slightly contrived map together to group whisky type by location...
It does show HP12 as smoky but I remember it being more like Glenfiddich. Maybe I need to re-acquaint myself
I like most of them tbh. I acquired the taste while working in Livingston many moons ago. Not entirely sure what's from where, though I know some are from islands cos they are named after them, and I always enjoy trying different ones.
I pass the place every day heading for ClientCo and it's in my hometown, never tried it not being a fan of lowland whiskies

Get yourself down to 19 Greville St, London EC1N 8SQ, where you'll be met with an old black oak door that looks like it never opens. Give it a knock. This is the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Here they'll let you try as many tasters as you want. Try it neat first.
In my opinion underrated but when it comes to whisky market share / promotion colours the market too much, there are some gems out there to be discovered.
Fantastic. Saw the Jura but it didn't say "Peaty" on the label. God I'm such a pleb
Highland Park 12 year old was there, any good? Or is it better to shell out for the 18?
The 12 is fine but the 18 at the right price is worth spending a wee bit more. Try out a 12 first and see what you think it might just be to your taste.
