Advice from our Scottish brethrin needed

I know we do this every year, but times and prices change.

The requirement is a peaty whiskey that doesn't break the bank, and is readily available at the supermarket.

I just bought a Laphroaig quarter cask, for £32.

Then I noticed the Ardmore for £25. It said it was peaty, but lightly peaty. Well that's not going to cut it <pun intented>.

So given the brief, what do the ginger skirt wearing panel think?
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Lowland malts are less peaty so perhaps the Island varieties, any Skye, Jura, Islay etc. Orkney works too my favourite being Highland Park, the Macallan is a close second.

Fantastic. Saw the Jura but it didn't say "Peaty" on the label. God I'm such a pleb

Highland Park 12 year old was there, any good? Or is it better to shell out for the 18?

The 12 is fine but the 18 at the right price is worth spending a wee bit more. Try out a 12 first and see what you think it might just be to your taste.

Haven't tried it so can't really comment. Recently read Raw Spirit by the late Iain Banks which is very informative as well as just a good read.

I did a tour of the distillery a few years ago. Really enjoyed it.
