A PMO can make or break a project IMO. A bloody good PMO can make a huge difference if they are carrying out the correct roles well. We have two on this project and they are worth their weight in gold.

Only this - you're glad when a bad PMO isn't involved in a project but you'll do everything to get a good one on board.

MUN- most traders are monkeys putting on client orders. I earn twice what most of them do. Only the head traders make serious dough. If you can get stuff working fast, reliably, you can contribute more to the bottom line than a lot of traders. Lot of rich traders are simply lucky that they got put on a big deal, and got big commission off it.

That is true I guess, ISTR the junior traders used to be on 5% commision for deals whereas the senior ones were on +/- 10% and the head ones were on more but, to be fair, that is going back about 10 years! One of the senior guys mentioned that it was mainly luck and having nerve, you only have to be right 51% of them time etc.

One of them made an absolute fortune on a trade when he guessed right and invested very heavily. Afterwards he simply told everyone "I don't give a **** what happens for the rest of the year!" and then spent the aftenoon in the pub. If only I had got into the industry a few years earlier!

I'm not sure what they do. So I asked one of the long term
Staff here and he said 30 years ago they would of been called secretaries.

You can't ask them for stationary. You get "how would I know" and they just stare blankly while they try and make their point passive aggressively.

I would imagine the cleaners would have a legitimate claim to being 'real players' when they meet you in the office.

Interestingly enough I when I was a PM I often got shouted at by pointless d1ckeds because I was too quick to go to development and apparently we had not explored all of the requirements fully.

So actually sounds like just the environment I would survive in - however sadly I no longer PM!

They effectlvely ensure the project runs smoothly, ensure admin is done, ensure meetings are booked, fill in for PM when PM unavailable.

They are not 'glorified secretaries' (although I might add that a decent secretary is worth his/her weight in gold) nor do they have the key for the stationery cupboard

Is it just because they happen to be female that you have decided they are there to run the stationary cupboard and make tea
