Good reply SL - he's right. This is one of the better pieces of legislation that's been hanging around for years.

When I was a nipper my parents had a malicious neighbour sending us all kind of crap. We even had a policeman come around to the house (he thought it would be a good deterrent - and in those days it worked) and explained it just as SL said.

I had a great Christmas that year....

(IANAL of course, have a quick look on the CAB website just to confirm...)

I believe that this counts as "unsolicited goods". Write to them saying that as you made no order, and received the goods unsolicited that you will make no payment to them. Say further that unless they collect the book within 14 days that you will accept it as a gift. You have to write immediately though or your inactivity may be construed as acceptance of the terms in their documentation.

When you signed, did you check that it was just for receiving the delivery? If not, make sure that the letter states that you were tricked into signing the paperwork and that you do not accept that you are bound to any contract.

Anyone had a problem with Book Club Associates?

I have just received a book from an outfit calling themselves the Book Club Associates. Someone posing as a courier delivery person (I think she was parked outside my house waiting for me!) gave me a package which I signed for. It turns out that I now owe 99p for this 'free' book, and that will sign me up to their membership program which I don't want to join!

Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with them?
