    picture in picture is still available, but rare, great for cctv as well.

    It's called a TV guide with a reminder function. Virgin boxes, sky boxes and even freeview all have this function.

    In the late 1980s I had a video that could switch between the tape and the live program showing one in the majority of the screen and one in a corner and switch between them. Very ghandy if watching a video while waiting for a live program to come on. Surprised this never caught on.
